Dior Fall/Winter 2022 Men’s Collection

This season, Kim Jones made the city of Paris and the house of Dior’s significant place a real celebration, taking into account their past, present and future.

The city of Paris is just one dreamlike place in the world. Not only is it visually beautiful, but it is a source of rich history and culture of style, romance and whimsy. For this Men’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, Dior and its Creative Director Kim Jones presented a glamorous runway show, honouring the Eiffel Tower city in all of its historic and fashionable glory. With this show, Jones celebrated the city by creating garments that reflected its successful and long-standing relationship with the house of Dior.

The collection features 49 looks with both historical and contemporary references. It portrayed some of the house’s most distinguished looks while still playing into actual styles. For instance, several looks featured either tailored blazers or coats with wide shoulders pads that were nipped in at the waist, which were a notable reference to the “New Look,” originated in Dior’s Spring/Summer 1947 collection for women. Looking back at this important event in Dior’s cultural history, the look featured the now-signature Dior “Bar” jacket without any doubt, which dramatically cinched the waist and a voluminous skirt that fell below mid-calf.

After several years of wartime, the New Look pointed a clear return to glamour in the fashion world and shot Monsieur Dior and his eponymous house to international fame.

Kim Jones also used a leopard bomber, which harkens back to the house’s origins. Starting in 1947, Dior featured the timeless pattern in nearly all of his collections. The small accessories were examples of Dior’s backup pattern and history.

While celebrating Dior’s past, Kim Jones also looked to current trends and attempted to design each look featuring a pair of oversized trousers paired with long or baggy button-ups and sweatshirts.

These incredible garments show our love for oversized clothing and layering. The shoes were particularly referential to our modern-day tastes, with models stomping down the runway in either rubber or boiled wool Birkenstock-Esque clogs or chic sneakers.

In simply words, Dior’s Men’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection was a celebration of the Paris of yesterday and today, as well as the house’s significant place within its history. Moreover, Kim Jones warranted that the founder’s legacy continues by putting a contemporary spin on some of Monsieur Dior’s most cherished looks.
