Fashion Week 2023: The Best of Menswear Collections

Discover the highlights of Men’s Fashion Week from Milan to Paris.

Prada Menswear Fall 2023.24

The Fall/Winter 2023 menswear season kicked off with a bang and ended in Milan, marking the beginning of another dizzying Fashion Month. Showcasing some of the biggest names in Italian fashion, the week opened with the highly anticipated Gucci show, as well as other major Maisons such as Prada and Fendi.

Brands such as Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Dior Men and Dolce Gabbana took advantage of the January week to present their men’s collections and dictate what trends men will be wearing for the fall-winter 2023-24 season. In the case of Saint Laurent, under the direction of Anthony Vaccarello, the focus was on the cosmopolitan and contemporary man, showing details in the form of bows on shirts and coats to give drama to any look. Other brands, such as Givenchy, played with prints, creating a mix of animal prints, tartans and camouflage prints. Also, some of the protagonists were wide silhouettes, oversized tailoring and light layers, with a colour palette comprising subtle tones such as grey, khaki, white, yellow, purple, light blue and of course, the timeless basic colour, black.

The Men’s Fashion Week offered great shows and proposals where young designers and established fashion houses demonstrated a new definition of Italian style and closets for men today.

Here are some of our favourite collections of men’s fashion 2023.

SAINT LAURENT

Anthony Vaccarello’s latest men collection was inspired by the refined and defined aesthetics of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who designed the rotunda at the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection where the show took place. A palette of black, white, nude, navy blue and silver was the protagonist of the entire collection. However, the focus was on the boldness of form and texture rather than colour.

The Fall-Winter 2023.24 collection also mixed masculine and feminine motifs. Fluidity was one of its hallmarks, and clean garments were the focus. There were floor-hugging coats, hooded pieces with ultra-sharp shoulders, knitted tunics with elongated collars and much more.

FENDI

Fendi presented its latest Autumn-Winter 2023.24 collection, highlighting the power of textures in blanket coats and ponchos, cashmere tracksuits, oversize vests, fluid pants, mohair scarves and blankets.

The brand also went for classicism and traditional masculine silhouettes. Expressions of glitter and shine’ were added to the collection’s evening mood, from scatters of sequins to delicate metallic Tremblant appliqué, while shawl-like elements in tailoring and outerwear wrapped the body in glamorous style.

GIVENCHY

Taking place on the second day of Paris Fashion Week’s menswear shows, Givenchy unveiled its latest Fall-Winter Menswear 2023 collection, reassessing and re-evaluating the “archetypes of men’s fashion through the eyes of contemporary masculinities.” Creative Director Matthew M. Williams also “identified an instinctive evolution of sartorial virtues reflected in his own relationship with clothing,”.

Matthew M. Williams also mixed formal with casual. This season’s collection emphasized a more monochromatic color palette, with touches of vibrant pinks, greens and purples. Business definitely met playful in this year’s collection. There was plenty of tailoring, cargo pants transformed into skirts over sweatpants and tartan plaid skirts clashing with artfully worn knitwear.

PRADA

Created by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simmons, Prada presented its latest Fall-Winter 2023.24 collection, exploring the principles of fashion and evaluating its importance and impact in the modern world. It was held at the Deposito of the Fondazione Prada. The Prada FW 2023.24 showcased a collection where simplicity, minimization, comfort, and amplification took centre stage.

The collection showcased assertive, and extreme silhouettes to create a unique and fresh finish. There was a range of military-inspired outwear – slim officer’s coats, peacoats, parkas flight jackets and voluminous bombers. The oversized collars and cardigans were also featured throughout the collection.

DOLCE & GABBANA

Designers Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana unveiled their latest Dolce & Gabbana Fall Winter 2023/24 collection, exploring the essence of the brand. The show was held on January 14th, during the Milano Fashion Week.

The collection also explored the purity of the volumes, the innovative proportions, the tailored cut, the Italian fabrics and silks, and the handmade craftsmanship. Reviving elements of the FW 1999/00 collection, the Italian luxury fashion brand showed off micro-shirts, double-waist trousers, and superstructures of girdles, corsets and bands. “This has nothing to do with minimalism, but rather with simplicity,” they stated. Dark pieces were what this season’s collection was about. “These are our codes – which span from black to black, to eighty per cent black,” they joked.
