From February 10 to 15, New York became the world epicentre of fashion with the celebration of New York Fashion Week. A fashion week that leaves behind all kinds of restrictions associated with the pandemic and recovers the splendour of past editions with wonderful collections, not only demonstrating the talent and glamour of some designers but also showing the trends that hit hard this week and that will be essential to know what to wear this 2023.

Brands such as Dion Lee, Anna Sui, Brandon Maxwell, Carolina Herrera, Coach, Gabriela Hearst, Jason Wu Collection, KHAITE, Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, LaQuan Smith, Proenza Schouler, Sergio Hudson and Ulla Johnson previewed major trends.

World-renowned designer Christian Siriano filled his runway with thousands of multicoloured flowers and put Audrey Hepburn-worthy wide-brimmed hats on some of his models to top off a great week. “I didn’t want them to be literally rose prints all over, but things have an Audrey idea and a floral motif. So, that was the plan. That was the goal. We have some floral prints, but there’s still darkness and coolness to it.” For its part, Tory Burch took everyday looks and jazzed them up with bold elements like flowing midi skirts, brocade jackets, matching shorts and satin in bold hues. In fact, brands such as LaQuan Smith and Dion Lee opted for a more sensual approach with bold silhouettes highlighting the interplay between bold sexuality and sensuality.

Clearly, New York Fashion Week got off to a satisfying start, with designers from all over serving up a delightful array of fabulous clothes from the fall/winter 2023 collections.

Fashion label Rodarte unveiled its latest Fall-Winter 2023 collection during New York Fashion Week. Dark romance and the gothic eveningwear were the key inspirations for the brand, nodding to the hype surrounding Netflix’s latest hit, Wednesday. The brand showcased long black gowns with exaggerated sleeves, black veils, ballgowns, gothic make-up, caped dresses, and more.

Dion Lee’s Fall-Winter 2023 collection was all about high-end party pieces. For the season, the brand showcased an incredible collection, embracing the club scene once again, with top-to-toe sequins, sheer pieces, and plenty of clingy dresses. Entitled “Second Skin”, the designer also referenced literal interpretations of snakeskin, shedding and scales on his designs, as seen in leather jackets, skirts, and trousers.

Sheer everything was the key inspiration for the label. We could see models walking on the runway and wearing sheer dresses, dramatic cut-outs, latex and catsuits. “This collection has a little bit more of an elevated sophistication,” Smith said at a preview at his Long Island City studio. “The LaQuan Smith woman is growing, and she’s incorporating these sexy elements she finds here in all aspects of her life,” he added.

Tory Burch’s latest Fall-Winter 2023 collection was all about embracing imperfections and breaking traditional stereotypes of feminine beauty. The creative designer mixed strong outerwear and tailoring with lingerie and feminine knits. “I’m fascinated about how women today have been liberated from a preconceived concept of beauty,” the designer said during a preview.
