Carolina Herrera Took Her Iconic Resort 2024 Fashion Show to Brazil
Rio de Janeiro was the setting chosen by Carolina Herrera to celebrate the first runway show outside of glamorous New York City.

The fashion brand Carolina Herrera landed this June 1 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro to present its latest fashion collection. A proposal framed within the Resort category for 2024 defined as an intimate tribute to the culture and the people of Brazil, which stood out as the first parade organized by the fashion brand, the first time it does it outside New York, a milestone in its more than 40 years of history. It was an amazing show held at the backdrop of the colourful Santa Teresa neighbourhood of Rio, under the Corcovado Christ and in front of enviable views over Sugar Loaf Mountain.
“Mother Nature and the tropical Brazilian climate proved to be the ultimate muse. As guests arrived to enjoy sunset cocktails and a breathtaking rainbow spanning the expanse of the stage, a rainstorm arrived at the show location for a prolonged and unexpected period. Ultimately, guests were escorted to the adjoining party in a jungle greenhouse built for the occasion, as models were filmed in the rain barefoot holding their shoes, evoking an emotional and romantic image of the Girl from Ipanema.” by Carolina Herrera.

“We realized the rain wasn’t going to let up,” Gordon said after the show, visibly excited. “We said ‘Oh, we’ll shoot a video inside,’ but all the girls insisted on walking.” Noting that many of them are Brazilian, he continued, “They were singing songs, cheering, clapping. The show happened because of the models. I think it was the most emotional I’ve ever been.”
With Mother Nature and the tropical climate as inspirational muses, Rio de Janeiro hosted an unprecedented event. Wes Gordon, creative director of Carolina Herrera, was the one who decided to challenge tradition and transfer the brand’s culture to the Brazilian territory, for its cultural richness and fusion of sophistication and charm, along with the sensuality and freedom of the Carioca city. This collection is an ode to the festive and colourful spirit of Brazilian culture, fusing the timeless elegance of the brand with the energy and sensuality of the carioca city.

Creative director Wes Gordon said Rio was chosen because it is “an inspiring city for many reasons. The vivid colour palette, the unique blend of its universally loved music, Oscar Niemeyer’s stunning modernist architecture and the exuberance of its traditions.”
With “exuberance” and “sensuality” as the main flags to claim for this collection, Gordon presented a colourful proposal of vaporous and voluminous lines, built on a chromatic palette in which the characteristic black associated by the creative with the most cosmopolitan environments of New York City, merges with the rainbow of flavours and colours that characterize the Brazilian scene and the city of Rio de Janeiro as a whole. Based on this sum of characteristics, Gordon showed a cruise collection from which he revisits the codes and the most characteristic and characteristic elements that have been part of the Herrera house.

Polka dots add a fun touch to pieces like menswear-inspired silk shirts and pants worn over a matching bikini top. Eyelet cotton is shown in vibrant green, red, and black as the base for new cocktail dresses, ball gown skirts and gowns that lend an air of comfort to glamorous garments.
Unexpected blocks of colour make unforgettable entrances, such as a cropped mini-dress in blue, green and orange. Sequins take on dramatic flair, evoking watercolour flowers or a shimmering sunset. Orchids are a motif throughout the collection, from delicate embroidery to soft watercolour prints on organza.

Among the luxury guests, some of the celebrities invited, Sabrina Carpenter, Leonie Hanne, Camila Morrone, as well as the Argentinean Eugenia Suarez and Valentina Zenere were present.

Eugenia “China” Suarez was chosen to represent the country in the framework of the Carolina Herrera Resort 2024. She also participated in a fitting with the designs of the fashion house that she wore during her stay in Rio de Janeiro.
