BALENCIAGA recently unveiled its highly anticipated Pre-Fall 24 collection to much acclaim. With its first-ever show in California, the brand transported the audience on a captivating cinematic journey through the world of Californian fashion codes.
Set against the backdrop of a picturesque palm tree-lined street, Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia, skillfully blended the essence of California’s fashion with a cinematic lens, creating a spectacle that mesmerized the audience from the very beginning.
The show was a narrative-driven experience, with the concept centring around the daily activities of diverse characters. Jogging, yoga, and sports transitioned into the glitz and glamour of Hollywood parties. The collection effortlessly fused various elements, showcasing Balenciaga’s expertise in updated grunge, contemporary daywear, and their signature tailoring.
One notable chapter of the collection was dedicated to activewear. Balenciaga drew inspiration from the American trend of velour tracksuits and the fashionable looks of celebrities photographed on the streets. The result was a range of simple yet stylish pieces, including shorts, bras, leggings, and sweatshirts. The collection introduced new versions of athletic attire, with low-cut pants, daring underwear, and cropped hooded jackets, adding a trendy and edgy touch.
The collection also focused on a neo-grunge aesthetic. Oversized and layered clothing took centre stage, with standout pieces such as asymmetrical cutout pants, a hand-embroidered leopard-print coat, and leather bags lined with a nylon tote. Balenciaga’s avant-garde fusion of styles showcased their commitment to experimentation and their ability to redefine fashion norms.
The grand finale of the show celebrated the essence of evening wear. The shapes and silhouettes of the garments exuded a highly structured and sophisticated aesthetic. Balenciaga wanted to pay homage to the legendary Cristóbal Balenciaga, expertly blending past and present designs.
In addition to the stunning clothing collection, Balenciaga unveiled a range of new accessories that had attendees in awe. The limited edition Cagole Tote XL paid homage to the iconic Le City bag, originally launched in 2001. This oversized accessory is expected to become a must-have item for fashion enthusiasts. The brand also surprised the audience with a collaboration with New York-based high jewellery and watchmaking house Jacob & Co. The exclusive high jewellery line, crafted from 18-carat white gold and diamonds, showcased Balenciaga’s entry into the world of fine jewellery. The collection featured chunky necklaces, bracelets, thin necklaces, and an oversized two-finger ring, all proudly displaying the full name “Balenciaga.”
As the show drew to a close, Balenciaga unveiled their latest sneaker creation, the 10XL. With an extreme shape that pushed the boundaries of design, this avant-garde shoe further solidified the brand’s distinctive signature silhouette.
The front row of the show boasted an array of stars, including Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Cardi B, and Nicole Kidman. Their presence highlighted the level of anticipation and admiration for Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 24 collection.
